Online Guide for Future Stars Do I Need to Relocate? |
DO I NEED TO RELOCATE? N ot necessarily at least not now. There are more opportunities in the show biz meccas, but there is also LOTS more competition. You may find it easier to get your start outside of the Big Three (New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago) where you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and practice your craft.Living in or near Nashville, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Orlando, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Dallas, Portland, San Francisco, or Washington, D.C. also places you near major hubs. Big City life, though, is not agreeable to everyone and may not be an option for your family. There is plenty of work in other markets, and you may find union cards are more easily attainable. Some rules (e.g. multiple agents) may also be less stringent. Additionally, about 90% of all commercials (commercials represent about 50% of the total income for all actors as much as movies and TV combined) are produced in New York and Los Angeles and about 85% of actors make their homes there. But there are lots of advertisements done in almost every major city in the United States. So, first among the advantages of not relocating may be the fact that you wont be competing with that other 85%! There are many routes to building your career, and you should depend on your Personal Manager and Agent to help you in that regard. |
